Title: Need for construction of a bridge on river Krishna connecting Guntur and Krishna districts near Penumudi and Puligadda in Andhra Pradesh.

PROF. UMMAREDDY VENKATESWARLU (TENALI): It is the long felt need of the coastal Andhra Pradesh to have a bridge across Krishna river connecting Guntur and Krishna districts near Penumudi and Puligadda. This forms part of the proposed Tada-Ichapuram National Highway in the coastal Andhra Pradesh. This bridge facilitates transportation of agricultural and Aqua products of coastal areas to the nearest ports at Chennai and Visakhapatnam and other places, so that the coastal economy could be improved. The coastal area is having a tremendous potentiality of both inland and marine aqua products like fish, shrimp, crabs, etc. besides agricultural products mainly for export. This will earn sizeable foreign exchange to the country besides providing tremendous employment opportunities to the people. The related service sectors like transport, cold storage also will provide employment opportunities.

Further, it will also cut short the road distance between Chennai and Visakhapatnam by about 100 kms. and thereby the savings on vehicle fuel will run in hundreds of crores of rupees annually.

Hence, in view of the importance and urgency, I urge upon the Government to sanction the Tada-Ichapuram National Highway and thereby the Penumudi-Puligadda bridge immediately.
